Upgrade process

Upgrades are applied on a workload domain basis. Upgrade the management domain before upgrading the other VI workload domains. You must upgrade all required components to keep your system in an optimum state.

  1. Verify that VMware vSAN Health in VMware vCenter is all green first. This workaround skips the VMware vSAN Health from VMware SDDC Manager perspective.
  2. On VMware SDDC Manager apply the precheck HBA workaround before the upgrade. Reapply the precheck HBA workaround if VMware SDDC Manager is updated or reinstalled during the upgrade.
  3. Use SSH to gain access to VMware SDDC Manager.
  4. Enter: su and the password.
  5. To open the properties file, enter:

    cd /opt/vmware/vcf/lcm/lcm-app/conf/

    vi application-prod.properties

  6. Enter false for each of the following VMware vSAN configuration values:
    • vsan.healthcheck.enabled=false
    • vsan.hcl.update.enabled=false
    • vsan.precheck.enabled=false
  7. To restart the servers, enter: systemctl restart lcm
  8. Once servers have restarted, run the upgrade.
